TIPS For Choosing the Perfect Flowers for Your Wedding

Choosing the Perfect Flowers for Your Wedding

Although flowers play a significant role in the overall theme of a wedding, it's easy to overlook this detail, especially in the early stages of planning the big event. Plan in the early stages! Provide your florist with your budget and theme early on to avoid any rushed decisions as your special day approaches.
Communicate Both Likes and Dislikes

It is so important to have at least a basic idea of your wedding's theme. Everyone has different tastes and if flowers and arrangements are unfamiliar territory for you, be sure to provide your floral designer with a general sense of what you're looking for. Perhaps you're leaning towards a look with a farmy-rustic vibe, or maybe something that's more traditional. No matter what it is, if you tell your florist, they will work with you and help you pick something amazing!

Additionally, maybe you'd like to incorporate more foliage into your arrangements for texture or a minimalistic look. Either way, these seemingly small decisions will ultimately affect the end result of whatever you choose!

That being said, it is also incredibly important to express what you DON'T like. Knowing your dislikes will make all the difference! Provide pictures of things that inspire you AND pictures of things that you want to avoid. You will be so happy that you did this in the end and your communication with your floral designer will go so much smoother!
Choosing Your Colors

In weddings, it's very common to match flowers with the color of the bridesmaids' dresses to stay in the realm of your chosen color scheme. However, there is a difference between matching colors and utilizing complementary colors. If both your floral arrangements and dresses are centered around the color pink, that's all that will be seen in the wedding and your photos! A sea of pink...

Flowers should be used to accent the dresses rather than blend in with them, just like in this picture to the right!

The photo above is a perfect example of complementary colors between the bridesmaids' dresses and the flower arrangements that they're holding. If the dresses are a sunny-yellow color, opt for deep purple flowers (or vice versa). Take this opportunity to unleash your creativity! One splash of color in your arrangements will make a world of a difference.

Compromise

A BIG tip for planning a wedding (even beyond floral design) is to be flexible. Rarely when planning big events does every single element come together without a few hiccups along the way. Maybe the flowers you had your eye on clash with the surrounding decor or are too aromatic for a centerpiece. Try to always have a couple of different backup ideas and trust the suggestions of your floral designer! This flexibility will save you so much stress in the overall planning process. Your floral designer will be able to work wonders with even a general look that you may be envisioning!
